Summer's end

It's the last days of summer.
School starts for Greek schoolkids tomorrow.

The first rains have washed the dust away. And there's a fresh autumnal note in the air.

For me, it's one of the best times of the year. I love the summer, but by the time September rolls around, I'm ready for a change.

It fees like a new start, with fresh hopes, in a way that January the 1st never does.

Here's to hoping...

  1. That's the thing about either being a mum or a teacher. There are two 'new years' - Sept and Jan. It makes the year seem to fly by!

  2. There's a decided snap in the air here too - I've noticed the hawthorn trees are in full red berry mode. :) I love the snap of the autumn :)

  3. Do they have the really long summer holiday like here in Cyprus, I was amazed when I found out they have 3 months off.
No real sign of the end of summer here though, still hot hot hot and no sign of rain at all!

  4. Yes, it's a long three-month stretch from mid-July through to mid-September (lucky things, Hubby & son don't really believe me when I tell them that we got just 6 weeks back in Blighty). We're lucky that the in-laws have a house in the country that is within commutable distance of Athens, so when school closes we head up there til the first or second week of September.

Result - I get very tired (2 hours commute each day can take it out of a girl), but Young'Un gets tanned and sun-bleached and very fit from the daily swims and general cavorting on the beach.
